QIDAN welcomes the Government’s commitment to strengthening disability safeguards in response to the Disability Royal Commission (DRC), but warns that meaningful reform must go beyond policy intent.
Drawing on extensive advocacy experience, this submission calls for flexible, culturally safe, and disability-led safeguards that recognise diversity, uphold dignity of risk, and encourage supported decision-making. QIDAN highlights the critical role of independent advocacy, stronger accountability and enforcement, a provider of last resort, and nationally consistent oversight of closed settings. The submission urges urgent action to ensure safeguards protect all people with disability, including those outside the NDIS, and translate into real, lived safety and quality.
